The Egg
Yes,I always knew that eggs came from chickens.
But for us, in reality, they come in cartons -
In the refrigerator department at the grocery store;
Pristine, lovely in their little cups,
Even in size, uniform in color,
Oh, sometimes a little speckled. .
So eggs really come in cardboard - or plastic
Until yesterday, when I opened the carton and there,
On top of one of the eggs
Was a feather.
Proof, that once upon a time
There was a chicken involved.
